Unsupported Crypto Sent to Shakepay
Oops! Sent the wrong crypto to your Shakepay ETH address? Don't panic! It's a common mix-up. Shakepay only works with Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), and each has its own address. While your ETH address can technically receive other ERC-20 tokens (like USDC, USDT, UNI, LINK), Shakepay only lets you use ETH there. They also only accept ETH from the main Ethereum network—no layer-2 networks like Arbitrum or Optimism or Base.
So, what if you accidentally sent another token or ETH from a layer-2? Is it gone forever? Nope! It's still at that address, Shakepay just doesn't have a way for you to see it. And since they don't give you your wallet's private keys, you can't just import it somewhere else.
To get your crypto back, you'll need to contact Shakepay support through the app. Be prepared to give them:
- The date and time of the transaction
- The type and amount of crypto you sent
- The transaction ID
- A return wallet address that supports the crypto you sent
Just a heads-up: Shakepay doesn't give a timeline for how long recovery takes, so be patient!
